About “Watchmen”
Watchmen is a 12 issue comic book series created by author Alan Moore and artist Dave Gibbons in 1986-1987. It is considered a revolutionary work due to the way it critiqued the Super Hero concept and used it to highlight contemporary issues. Time magazine has placed Watchmen in the list of the 100 best English-language novels published since 1923. Attempts to adapt the series to a feature film were underway since 1989, but were unsuccesfull for 20 years, due to the series’ complexity. Finally in 2009 the movie was released by Warner Bros’. It was directed by Zack Snyder who directed the highly successfull film “300” (another comic book adaptation) a few years prior. The movie is considered to be a faithful adaptation retaining the structure, themes and most of the plot elements of the original series.
